This report considers the composition of fortified milk products marketed around the world, the ingredients being used and the claims being made. These products marketed for children over the age of 1 year are not covered by infant milk regulations in many areas and frequently make unreasonable claims for their necessity in the diet of children.
These products are part of a rapidly expanding ‘fortified foods and drinks’ market across the world and it is important that everyone has clear information about what these milks contain so that health professionals and others can offer clear guidance on whether they are a useful addition to the diet.
